2008 Year in Review

I really came back to knitting in 2008. Even with the qualifying madness, I still knit a bit over 3 miles of yarn this year (around 3.07 miles, to be exact, or 5,405 yards). I made...

Two and a half pairs of socks
Two handbags
One baby blanket
Four dishcloths
3/4 a full cardigan
1/3 a short sleeve cardigan
One scarf (finished), one scarf (that will never end) still underway
One lace shawl
One lace shawl I gave up on
One baby mitten
One hat

And that doesn't count things I've knit and frogged out and already forgotten about (like some oversized baby booties and a sweater that only Escher's child could wear).

So what do I want to do in 2009?

Finish the wool cardigan
Finish the cotton cardigan
Finish the socks on the needles
Make another baby blanket
Make a bunch of baby stuff for the bunches of babies that are coming
Make myself some socks for a change

And I think I'm in love with it.

Definitely gonna have to visit Southwind Farms for more yarn!

Knitting update...

My camera is broken (well, my iPhone camera is okay, but it's not the best quality ever), so it's sad to try to talk about knitting cause I can't show it off.

I eventually fixed the cable, after lots of frustration. I finally figured out the thing to do was to drop all the stitches, put them back on a dpn, and knit one row at a time with dpns to work my way up all the "ladders" I dropped through. The twist is right now, but then that project hit another snag - I just don't like the way the drop stitches look in this yarn. They're too loose and floppy. Which is a tragedy, cause the yarn feels so yummy and the cables look so good. I'm thinking of frogging and making Hey Teach! out of the yarn instead. I'm still snooping around to see if I can find a pattern that would be closer to my skin since the yarn feels sooooooo yummy.

In other knitting news, I put my cotton, short-sleeve, empire-waist cardigan on hold for the winter...just not inspired to knit with cotton right now! I've been falling in love with wool all over again.

I finished the alpaca shawl with the yarn from Southwind Farms and it is lovely - once I get good pictures that gets it's own post! I've also made a Norwegian Star Earflap hat in crazy leftover Cascade 220 colors - bright pink and bright green.

I forgot how much I loved Cascade 220. I loved it so much that I went on to cast on a Bountiful Bohus.

I like the pattern so far. I did misread and do a cable row every other row on the bottom portion, so I have very tight cables on the bottom of the sweater. They're pretty but a lot of work. I also decided to only go about two inches of ribbing at the bottom instead of three - I think that the three inches would have been a lot for my torso, so I switched to stockinette a bit early.

Hopefully I'll get ahold of a camera and get better pictures soon. I'm getting a new camera for Christmas, and that should usher in a new era of knit-blogging.

Aaack!

Aaack!, originally uploaded by kllamb.

I found a mistake in my cabled shawl this morning on the bus.

It makes me want to weep.

I can fix it, it will just take time and patience, two things I've been short on lately.

I tried socks!

I tried socks. I didn't get SSS. They were quick, they were straightforward. It could be love, socks and I....
